Parental Interaction and Disability Provision
Parental Interaction and Inclusion (disability provision)
In today's blog we look at the importance of parental interaction and how we make our SportsCrew project inclusive for all. At Frodsham CE Primary School there are no Disability provisions in place for Lunchtime activities, but the SportsCrew are set to change that. Resource's on parental inclusion and disability provision are also included.Inclusion
For the most part, the SportsCrew have been working on their awareness of their own sessions, How do we make it better? For them to be able to achieve this, reflecting on the enjoyment of their participants has been a key indicator. We've helped the children understand the STEP model but also help them observe their own activities, what to watch for and how to intervene. As the weeks continue and the Sports Leaders gain more and more experience, their effectiveness gets better. At the moment children are only adapting sessions for enjoyment and for children's needs, as there is no children at the sessions with disability to participate. But the STEP model could be a tool for the leaders to use if they have participants with any disability. If the session needed extra support to help children with disabilities be active during lunchtime, more specific training would be given to the leaders, who have already shown an interest in different sports so this interest could be used to introduce Paralympic sports such as Boccia or Goal-ball, for example. Bring abled and non abled children together.
Parental Interaction
To include the parents in the project can only strength the relationship you have with the children. It's important for us to make sure that the children are proud of their own individual journey in the project. If a child finds this project worthy to discuss and show to their own parents or guardians, suggest to me that they are proud. At the most recent Prize-Giveaway a number of different parents approach me to talk about what the project was, how it was implicating their child and what they heard from their children. I use these Prize-Giveaway's as an opportunity to talk to parents. It's great to gain an insight to how they feel the project is important. Also a chance for me to educate them in why this project could be an important opportunity for the children, just before they move on from primary school to secondary school. To include parents in the project give us at JCPE an opportunity to use them as a motivational or praising tool. Theres no greater aspect in a Childs life than their parent or guardian. So to include should only help the process, we want the children to finish the project, feel as though they've progressed and ultimately be proud to how their certificate, so if a parent can help us understand their children or help us covey an important message that incredibly important to us.
Once again thank you to everyone for their continued support!
